The village of Winnetka is located 16 miles north of downtown Chicago and borders Lake Michigan. It is a family friendly village with great schools, parks and attractive shopping areas.
Schools
Winnetka is serviced by District 36 and 37 for schools. District 36 has 3 schools for grades K to 4: Greeley, Crow Island, and Hubbard Woods elementary schools; 5th and 6th graders attend The Skokie School; and 7th and 8th graders attend Carleton Washburne School. A portion of SW Winnetka is in District 37 and is serviced by Avoca Grade school and Marie Murphy Junior High.
New Trier is the high school that services Winnetka. It is nationally recognized for its academic excellence. In addition it has a vast array of sports and extracurricular programs. New Trier provides outstanding education programs for all levels of students. From its college level advanced placement courses to its special education classes New Trier challenges its students and provides an excellent education for all. It sports teams compete for state titles regularly, its gifted students are admitted to the top colleges, and its special needs students grow and learn in an inclusive environment to the best of their capabilities.
Park District
Winnetka has 27 parks including 5 along its lakefront including Tower, Elder and Lloyd Parks. It also has excellent athletic facilities along Hibbard Road on the west side of town where there are fields for soccer and football, an indoor hockey rink, and indoor tennis courts.
Business District
Winnetka has great shopping and dining areas. There is the downtown area and then further North in the Hubbard Woods neighborhood is another attractive business district. These areas are dotted with quaint local shops and many wonderful restaurants. Among the restaurants are: Chef’s Corner, Avli, Trifecta Grill, Little Ricky’s Rib Joint, and Michaels.
