The village of Glencoe is located 19 miles north of downtown Chicago and borders Lake Michigan. It is a family friendly village with great schools, parks and a quaint downtown with excellent restaurants, shops and a historic train depot. It has a superb theater called Writers Theater that attracts people across the Chicago area to Glencoe.
Schools
Glencoe is serviced by District 35 for elementary schools. District 35 has 3 schools: South for grade K to 2, West for grades 3 to 4, and Central for grades 5 to 8. The district believes in maximizing creative and critical thinking skills to provide a solid foundation for its students to successfully move on to high school and beyond.
New Trier is the high school that services Glencoe. It is nationally recognized for its academic excellence. In addition it has a vast array of sports and extracurricular programs. New Trier provides outstanding education programs for all levels of students. From its college level advanced placement courses to its special education classes New Trier challenges its students and provides an excellent education for all. It sports teams compete for state titles regularly, its gifted students are admitted to the top colleges, and its special needs students grow and learn in an inclusive environment to the best of their capabilities.
Park District
Glencoe has 24 parks and facilities for its residents to enjoy including a beach, a bird sanctuary and a fitness center with weights and cardio equipment.
Business District
Glencoe has great shopping and dining in its downtown and in the south part of town. Among the restaurants are: Guildhall, Little Red Hen and Frank and Betsie’s. There is also the Tudor Wine Bar. In the downtown is the exceptional Writer’s Theater allowing for a wonderful evening of dinner and a show.
