Northfield

Northfield is a small suburb with uniquely large lots of land. It has many acre lots which is unusual for the suburbs just north of Chicago. As a result, it is not uncommon to find homes with outdoor pools or deer roaming the yards in Northfield. It has easy access to downtown Chicago from the Metra train station stop and highway 94. A favorite North Shore restaurant is The Happ Inn in downtown Northfield.

Schools

Northfield is served by 3 excellent grade school districts. District 29 serves the majority of the suburb and has Middle fork and Sunset Ridge schools. District 37 covers a portion of East Northfield and has Avoca and Marie Murphy schools. District 31 covers part of West Northfield and has Winkelman and Field schools. All three districts and their schools have excellent reputations.

New Trier is the high school that services Northfield. It is nationally recognized for its academic excellence. In addition it has a vast array of sports and extracurricular programs. New Trier provides outstanding education programs for all levels of students. From its college level advanced placement courses to its special education classes New Trier challenges its students and provides an excellent education for all. It sports teams compete for state titles regularly, its gifted students are admitted to the top colleges, and its special needs students grow and learn in an inclusive environment to the best of their capabilities.

Park District

Northfield has a modern community center with a large fitness center and a gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, and a batting cage. It also has Willow Park with playing fields, tennis courts, fitness stations and a picnic area with grills.
